THE WILLIAMS LAKE HOUSE (click an image to zoom in)
The home we designed in Williams Lake nestles into the bank so that the lower floor opens out to the South and
a sun trap. Even in the dead of winter, when the sun is shining, it is warm. The view is a beautiful small lake. Horses are kept
on the acreage. The home is ideally suited to the site. There are two bedrooms and two baths on the main floor with additional
living and sleeping space on the lower level.
The bank is planted
with shrubs and there is a stair down to the lower level from the main floor deck. The other side of the house has punched windows that frame the views
of the woods.
On the lower level there is a fenced-in vegetable garden, generously fertilized by the horses. A fence protects the garden
from otherwise welcome deer. Vegetables cannot be planted right up against the fence since the horses also like tasty greens in the spring.
From the sky the house looks like a plane and with all the small planes buzzing around Williams Lake the homeowner's
friends are always teasing her as to when she is going to 'take off'.
From the side, the roof of wood storage for the wood furnace continues across the driveway to provide a
protected carport and protection for the main entrance. A whimsical tail fin adds to the likeness of a plane, as does the 'prow' of the living room.
The living room has a cathedral ceiling with cover for indirect lighting. The skylight surrounds the chimney, made from local white stone, as is is the fireplace.
Wood cross ties are suspended from the peaked ceiling adding to the woodsy look. Diagonally placed cedar board siding completes
this home that fits so beautifully into its site.
Not only are there horses on this ranch, there are also two dogs, seen above with the owner, on the upper deck outside the living room.
