THE OHISAN (click an image to zoom in)
The Short Ohisan (Sunny) is one of our more flexible, efficient and compact designs.
This bungalow saves space by the bedrooms, bathroom and storage Module sharing circulation with the Great Room Module.
The living area is anchored on one end with a fireplace or a free standing stove, and at the other end by the kitchen.
Another alternative is to have a shed roof (below left). The two versions, with pitched or shed roofs,
have two 30 ft Modules for a total of 720 ft2. These two designs give a high ceiling (11 feet) and could have exposed rafters for
a more 'woodsy' look. Both versions also show a glass canopy over the front deck. The living wing is next to the window wall, with the bedroom
wing behind.
The flat roof design at its longest is 30 feet. It has two modules, the two bedroom/bathroom
module, and the shorter living module at 26 feet long, for a total of 672 ft2. The flat roof is cantilevered
part way over the deck.
As with all of our designs, generous windows increase the spacious look. Sculptural structural bracing with iridescent
triangular plastic insets enhances the extra bracing. This bracing is interior to the glass so does not affect the integrity of double paned
windows. The window wall would be oriented to face the best view on your site.
The bathroom is cantilevered out from the Bedroom Module for
more space. The wall is accented with fine corrugated Galvalume and wood siding.
As can be seen from the above rendering, the roof can be used for Solar Panels to supplement hot
water heating.
The kitchen is adjacent to the deck - easy access for a barbecue. Note the kitchen island that not only provides
additional work space but also has a seating bar.
Also note that this is an expanded Long Ohisan with three bedrooms and an integral deck.
Living/Bedroom Modules are 1250 ft2 and the deck is 340 ft2. There are several possibilities with this version:
the three bedroom version above, four bedrooms with no integral deck (1400 ft2) and build the
deck later, or make the units slightly longer with larger bedrooms and more living space, with or without a deck. In addition, a smaller
initial home can be built and added to later.
With all of the Ohisan versions, there are only two Modules which makes construction costs and
transportation less costly.
