THE DERRY (click an image to zoom in)
The site was steep in a snowy, mountainous location, precluding a driveway down to the flatter area below.
The house stands on stilts so that the driveway and carport come off level with the fronting street.
The large single shed roof follows the sharp angle of the ground. The upper part is over the loft.
The stairway bisects the two loft bedrooms.
The lower floor has open plan Kitchen/Dining/Living spaces. The Master Bedroom, a small Den and
a Bathroom are under the loft. In addition there is a Washer/Dryer space.
A covered balcony, essential in snowy regions, allows for year-round barbequeing.
Even the propane tank has a cover. Trying to dig out the tank after a heavy snowfall is not an enviable job.
The roof for The Derry can be a straight shed roof or can have a large dormer window, bringing
in even more natural light. The Derry is approximately 1000 ft2.
